How to set MIG welding conditions

MIG welding machines have settings with arbitrary scale markings and finding the correct welding conditions for a particular joint means

1. knowing the transfer mode and general conditions you want
2. recognising what the machine is doing when trying a welding test
3. estimating what settings of the controls (voltage and w.f.s.) are needed
4. evaluating weld outcome - if not as visualised, identifying the needed change(s)
