Weld metallurgical qualification Standards and other welding Standards
There are two main sets of "qualifications" in guaranteeing weld quality:
- Weld metallurgical qualification Standards, which show that the
metallurgy of the weld will give the properties required; of
strength, toughness, etc.
- the welder (the-person) qualification ("Coding") which shows that
the welders employed on the project are able to produce sound welds
without flaws large enough to be classified as defects, which
possess the properties desired and proven in the Weld metallurgical
qualification Standard tests
The Standards governing the Weld metallurgical qualification are a
completely different set / family (in ISO's, from ISO15607 through to
ISO15614-series) from the Standards governing welder-the-person
Qualification (ISO9606)
This article is about solely the Weld metallurgical qualification and
its Standards (ISO15607 up to and including the ISO15614 series).
