Richard's last "Routemaster" journey

Here it is - my momento from the last day of Routemaster bus operation in London.

The picture is in Regent Street, in the heart of London's West End, the shopping and entertainment centre of London.

This bus was in regular use to the end but was lovingly preserved in its original form, one of the very few still with the original A.E.C. diesel engine.

Apart from the overall quality of the Routemaster, the sound of the engine and transmission is the most amazing characteristic - a very slow melodious rumble, with the engine on tick-over turning so slowly that the bus sometimes gently shakes side-to-side at traffic lights.

My attachment to these buses was great and I was very tearful on this, my farewell journey.
