Axisymmetric FEA simulations

These apply axisymmetric elements.

Very efficient for the special case that all component geometry(s) and applied loading(s) have full rotational symmetry about one linear axis.

"Thin-wall"

Radius 2; wall thickness 0.2; pressure 100.
Hoop-stress is arithmetically determinate at"1000"

"Thick-wall"

No simple arithmetic solution known / presented.
Radius 1; wall thickness 1; pressure 1000.

The pattern of stresses seen for this component initially with no stresses, neither applied nor internal/residual, appears to show why gun-barrel or high-pressure pump cylinder might advantageously be "autofretted"
[Wikipedia page - "Autofrettage"] .
